Staffing Firm Wins American Academy of Nursing Media Award

San Diego, CA, November 30 2006 -- Access Nurses, a national travel nurse company has won the 2006 Media Award from the American Academy of Nursing for the web based docu-drama, 13 WEEKS.

The show, released on www.nursetv.com, shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes of medicine. 13 Weeks focuses on six travel nurses from all over the country on assignment in Southern California, experiencing the intense hospital environment and the excitement of exploring and living in a new place.

The United States is facing a critical nursing shortage. According to the US Department of Health & Human Services there will be over 800,000 unfilled nursing positions by the year 2020.

"Our objective in creating the show is to highlight nursing as a rewarding career choice and encourage more people to enter the profession," says Alan Braynin, CEO of Access Nurses. "We are honored to receive this award from the American Academy of Nursing."

Luc R. Pelletier, Editor in Chief of the Journal for Healthcare Quality nominated Access Nurses for the award and says "the show is an exceptional example of real-life stories about the rewards and challenges of being a professional nurse. It shows nurses at their best, helping patients and families and helps establish the critical role they play in today's complex healthcare system."

"The review committee thought that the show was a highly creative and effective way to recruit traveling nurses into hospitals, " says Gail Powell-Cope of the American Academy of Nursing. "The committee liked the portrayal of nurses on the show as skilled and caring professionals in a variety of clinical settings, as well as real people who enjoy the company of each other during rest, relaxation and recreation."
